Heat Inactivated, Fetal Bovine Serum:

All Fetal Bovine Serum products are available heat inactivated and must be specified at the time of placing your order. Fetal Bovine Serum is heat inactivated in controlled conditions at 56° C for 30 minutes, intended to inactivate undesirable serum complement.

Heat inactivating serum is ideal for immunoassays and certain enzyme tests. It is also suitable when used in cell culture as a culture medium additive, a stabilizer or for coating culture vessels.

Gamma Irradiated, Fetal Bovine Serum:

Sterile filtration can ensure that Fetal Bovine Serum is almost entirely free of micro-organisms, but gamma irradiation will further reduce or eliminate the range of viruses and mycoplasmas which may be present after filtration. Gamma Irradiated Fetal Bovine Serum is suitable for the most stringent sterility requirements set in the Industry, such as virus and vaccine production, biopharmaceutical production processes and the production of diagnostic products.

Gamma Irradiated Fetal Bovine Serum is exposed to ionizing radiation at a dose between a minimum of 25 kGy and a maximum of 40 kGy. The serum will be gamma irradiated in small packages on a conveyor past the radiation source, ensuring the sensitive growth factors are protected as much as possible and the serum remains homogeneous.

Dialyzed, Fetal Bovine Serum:

Dialyzed Fetal Bovine Serum is used in applications requiring serum that has been highly reduced or depleted of small molecules, such as nucleotides, hormones, salts, proteins and amino acids weighing less than 10 kDa that could interfere with certain investigational studies. This process involves dialyzing the serum against physiological saline through a 10,000 Dalton cut-off membrane, involving a careful approach in controlled conditions, while monitoring the glucose concentration level throughout the duration. Dialyzed Fetal Bovine Serum is suitable to use as an additive for cell culture media and is thought to be ideal when used in incorporation or receptor studies.

Tetracycline Negative, Fetal Bovine Serum:

Tetracycline Negative Fetal Bovine Serum contains a maximum level of 5 µg/ml tetracycline or tetracycline derivative concentration. The tetracycline level is measured using an ELISA kit system. This serum is ideal for expression studies with Tet-on / Tet-off systems, as the presence of tetracycline could interfere with tetracycline regulated gene expression systems. Tetracycline negative serum contains low endotoxin and IgG levels.

Charcoal Stripped, Fetal Bovine Serum:

Charcoal Stripped Fetal Bovine Serum is filtered through charcoal, involving a process to strongly reduce the levels of hormones and steroids. This type of serum is primarily used in applications that require low levels of certain hormones or steroids such as progesterone, cortisol, corticosterone, testosterone, triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), estradiol and insulin, reducing the possibility of interference within applicable research studies. Sometimes, important growth factors and cytokines are also eliminated during this process which could result in a possible suppressed cell differentiation. This serum is ideal when used in hormone reduction cell culture, receptor studies and research in regards to steroid hormones in vitro.

IgG Stripped, Fetal Bovine Serum:

The IgG level is reduced to below 5 µg/ml in IgG Stripped Fetal Bovine Serum by hydrophobic charge induction chromatography (HCIC), making this type of serum ideal for hybridoma cell culture and the production of monoclonal antibodies. It is also suitable when used as an additive for cell culture media.

Embryonic Stem (ES) Cell Pre-tested, Fetal Bovine Serum:

Embryonic Stem (ES) Cell Pre-tested Fetal Bovine Serum eliminates the need to test the serum prior to using it with embryonic stem cells or amnion and chorionic villi cells in cytogenetics. This serum undergoes pre-testing by one of our experienced ES cell culturists, proving the ability to support the growth of undifferentiated colonies of ES cells. ES screened Fetal Bovine Serum is selected after studying the morphology of the stem cell colonies, plating efficiency and cytotoxicity assays. It is ideal for many types of primary cells.
